How to Generate and Download a Full Backup of Your cPanel Account
A Full cPanel Backup creates an archive of all your website files, MySQL databases, email accounts, forwarders, and cPanel configuration settings. It is recommended before making major website updates or migrations.
📋 Prerequisites
- Active HubforHost Cloud Hosting or cPanel Dedicated Server account
- Valid cPanel login credentials (URL: yourdomain.com/cpanel)
- Sufficient available disk space in your hosting quota to store the temporary backup archive
Step-by-Step Instructions

Navigate to Backup / Backup Wizard
In the cPanel dashboard, locate the 'Files' section and click on 'Backup' (or 'Backup Wizard').

Click on 'Download a Full Account Backup'
Under the 'Full Backup' heading, click the 'Download a Full Account Backup' button.

Select Backup Destination & Notification
Choose 'Home Directory' as your Backup Destination. Enter your email address to receive an automated notification once the backup archive generation is finished.
💡 Pro Tip: Do not close the page immediately. Backup generation runs asynchronously in the server background so large sites will not time out.

Download the Backup Archive
Once generated, the backup file appears under 'Backups Available for Download' with a name like backup-MM.DD.YYYY_HH-MM-SS_username.tar.gz. Click the filename to download it to your local machine.
📌 Important Notes
- Full backup archives cannot be restored directly via the cPanel user interface; they are restored by HubforHost support or via WHM root access.
- To restore individual files, use the Partial Backups section (Home Directory & MySQL).
